The University of Kansas Hospital is proud to be recognized as a 2025 Best Hospital for Maternity Care by U.S. News & World Report. This is the highest award a hospital can receive as part of U.S. News’ annual Maternity Care study.
The hospital was 1 of 5 in Kansas and 1 of 7 in the larger Kansas City area to earn this prestigious designation for maternity care.
The ranking was created to help patients make informed decisions about where to seek maternity care. U.S. News uses objective metrics to recognize hospitals that meet high standards in the quality of their labor and delivery services and practices.
Hospitals that earn the Best Hospital for Maternity Care designation outperform unrated hospitals in key outcomes, including:
- Cesarean-section rates
- Rates of severe unexpected newborn complications
- Outcomes related to breast milk feeding
- Reporting on racial/ethnic disparities
- Birthing-friendly practices
From early pregnancy to post pregnancy, our experienced team of OB-GYNs, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, midwives, family medicine providers and pediatricians delivers advanced, comprehensive care for expectant parents.
“This recognition reflects the dedication and expertise of our incredible team,” says Carrie Wieneke, MD, clinical service chief of obstetrics and gynecology of The University of Kansas Health System. “Their commitment to excellence ensures that expectant parents receive the highest quality care and the support they deserve at every step of their journey.”
“Without the collective efforts of our exceptional team members, this ranking would not be possible,” says Gail Schuetz, MSN, APRN, NNP-BC, associate chief nursing officer, inpatient, of The University of Kansas Health System.
In addition to this recognition, The University of Kansas Hospital was named the No. 1 hospital in Kansas and in Kansas City in 2024 by U.S. News & World Report, with 6 adult specialties ranked among the top 50 nationwide.
“We are honored so many people entrust us with their care during such a pivotal moment in their lives, says Angela Martin, MD, medical director, labor and delivery, department of obstetrics and gynecology, of The University of Kansas Health System. “We are resolute in our mission to deliver unmatched care and unrivaled outcomes.”
