Kansas City, Kan. — For the 12th consecutive year, The University of Kansas Hospital is the Best Hospital in Kansas City according to U.S. News & World Report. It is also the Best Hospital in Kansas for the 10th time. It is the only hospital to ever receive these honors.
The University of Kansas Hospital is also nationally ranked among the nation’s top 50 hospitals in 7 specialties, more than any other hospital in the region. In addition, 3 specialties are ranked as high-performing, which places them among the nation’s top 10%.
U.S. News reviewed data from 4,523 hospitals to create this year’s rankings. Only 165 hospitals were recognized in 1 or more specialties.
U.S. News rankings are based on a data-driven analysis of performance measures, including patient outcomes, nursing quality and the range of programs offered in any 1 specialty. They are also based on program reputation. These rankings were created to help patients with the most complex conditions find the most advanced care.
The 2021-22 national rankings for The University of Kansas Hospital are:
- Cancer (#49). It’s the 10th time this program has been recognized.
- Cardiology & Heart Surgery (#45, 2-way tie). It’s the 13th time this program has made the top 50 list.
- Ear, Nose & Throat (#17). It’s the 11th time this program has been recognized.
- Geriatrics (#24). This is the 11th time geriatrics has made the list.
- Neurology & Neurosurgery (#30). This specialty was listed for the 10th consecutive year.
- Pulmonology and Lung Cancer (#33). Pulmonology was ranked for the 12th year in a row.
- Urology (#27). Urology made the list for the 10th time.
The hospital is also listed as high performing in Diabetes and Endocrinology, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery and Orthopedics, which means it scored in the top 10% of all hospitals receiving a score in these specialties.
