Time-Critical Diagnosis

Trauma bay in the emergency department

Our 24/7 in-house trauma specialists deliver the highest standard of care for severely injured patients. We maintain the largest and most experienced Level I Trauma Center in the region, offering round-the-clock care for stroke, STEMI, burns, traumatic brain injuries, acute cancer needs and other complex conditions.

Highest standard of care

As a nationally recognized and dual-verified Level I Trauma Center, we are equipped to handle any level of emergency. We treat more than twice as many patients each year as the region’s next-largest facility. The health system has maintained its Level I Trauma verification from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) since September 2000.

Level I Trauma: A crucial difference

All trauma centers are not the same. Fewer than 8% of U.S. trauma centers hold the Level I Trauma distinction, the highest rating a program can achieve. To attain this elite verification, health systems must meet criteria that the American College of Surgeons (ACS) establishes.

Level I Trauma Centers deliver comprehensive care. Level I distinction is afforded to comprehensive trauma centers that provide 24/7 access to the physicians and services needed to treat the entire continuum of injury – from trauma prevention to ongoing rehabilitation.

We are nationally recognized and dual verified. We hold dual national verification at the highest level in trauma and burn care. Our mortality and complication rates are consistently lower than national averages and those of participants in the ACS Trauma Quality Improvement Program.

Our multidisciplinary team ensures patient success. From admission through follow-up care, our physicians and support staff provide holistic care for patients with complex injuries.
